Experience

After graduating with my master’s degree in 2014, I obtained counseling and career experience in non-profit community mental health, higher education, and teaching English. Since living in Michigan, I have been counseling both children and adults with a range of life experiences including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Substance Use Disorders, Anxiety, Depression, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. I also have experience administering Trauma Assessments that utilize evidence-based assessment tools and provide
recommendations that help children heal and thrive in life.

In transitioning to Schug Counseling, my hope is to specialize in Perinatal Mood Disorders as this is the population that I am most drawn to because I have lived experience with infertility, pregnancy loss, and a multiples pregnancy.

Education

Personal Statement

I believe that we all find ourselves in stuck places throughout our lives with confusion and overwhelm about where to go and what to do next. It is even more challenging when we are isolated in these places, not knowing who to trust or who will show up for us. This is where counseling comes in as a compassionate space that encourages the person to keep going and to know themselves more deeply in the process.

I seek to provide a warm, empathetic, and sometimes directive and educational (education is empowering!) space that integrates evidenced-based modalities including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Attachment, and Somatic/Body-focused therapies. I guide clients in noticing their natural strengths and in believing they have within themselves the ability to persist and grow.

It is my belief that Jesus is the ultimate hope, healer, and companion through stuck places in life, but I meet clients where they are at in each session, whether they have no interest in faith or a lot. I value and honor the various cultural and spiritual identities with which a client may enter the room.

When I’m not counseling, I like to be outside (think hiking, gardening, beach time), travel to new places with my husband and children, and participate in community at my church. It would be an honor to walk beside you as you keep going forward in life!
